In the spirit of smaller, more accountable government, what do you think of this statement?
We oppose all tax increases as a matter of principle.
We believe in a system in which taxes are simpler, fairer, flatter, more visible, and lower than they are today. The government’s power to control one’s life derives from its power to tax. We believe that power should be minimized.
If the question was addressed to me: I cannot agree emphatically enough. That said, it’s important to note that tax cuts, without corresponding spending cuts or payment of the debt, are not real tax cuts. Rather, they are simply tax deferrals, which taxes are in the meantime are collecting interest: debt-slavery for the future generations. Makes President Bush’s tax cuts seem less rosy, since spending has increased under his administration more than ever.
