Or just a momentary aberration?
Via Andrew Johnson, National Review Online: DCCC Chair: ‘Significant Extent the Republican Base’ Is ‘Animated by Racism’—
Johnson quotes from the dialogue between Candy Crowley and DCCC chair Steve Israel:
“To a significant extent, the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism and that’s unfortunate,” he told CNN’s Candy Crowley on Sunday. Crowley responded by saying these claims, as well as the “War on Women” attacks, all sound like “election-year strategy” to try to rally the Democratic base.
Good for Candy Crowley.
I’ve long wondered why the press continues to let this sort of thing continue election cycle after election cycle unchallenged.
- Is Crowley’s skepticism genuine, or playing the devil’s advocate?
- If it’s genuine, will any of her colleagues in the mainstream press emulate her in questioning this toxic and profoundly dishonest approach to campaigning?
If it’s genuine—if it’s an accurate reflection of Crowley’s actual state of mind—and if her colleagues in the mainstream press follow, we will have come a long way in clearing out the toxic waste dump the Democratic Party has created and the press has enabled.
And we may see Democrats and their party return to the mainstream of American politics.
I’m fascinated wondering if Israel actually heard Crowley’s complete question before answering.
At the end of her question she was referring to Israel’s Republican colleagues.
